Title | Letter from Bobby Johnston to Warren [Letter 94] |
Subject | Correspondence; World War, 1939-1945.; World War, 1939-1945--Women. |
Description | 40 Thursday 12:45 P.M. Oct. 26 My dearest darling: Four letters from you this morning, and the picture of the Statue plus a copy of Amerasia on Judia. No. XXVIII, brought tears of relief and happiness to my eyes - and gives me something concrete to look forward to. Don't know whether you were trying to tell me something in XXIX if you were I got it, if not ‘its’ a funny coincidence and doesn't matter. Such good letters honey, and the ones about me help so much. Was amused at the numerous and diverse references to sex - especially the Chinese barbarettes! Speaking of sex you ought to see the bathing suit - or rather excuse for one belonging to Bev that I've borrowed. A brief bra and briefest panties laced up the sides and with many bare places. Looks good on me too. My figure is better than it's ever been - I'm just sorry you’re not here to enjoy it - Anyway we've taken some pictures which will be ready early next week. I am going to start a new scrapbook [pg 2] with all the pictures, pressed flowers etc. that you send. Bev N. wants to know if you can get any bamboo pieces about 12”x 15” for her to make a picture frame out of - she's doing a sketch of Rebel for Gil’s birthday. Was delighted to hear about the Benedictine - that really is a find - But, of course, you had to anticipate one of your Xmas presents! Oh well, you ought to be able to give a real [throw?]. Honey, there are cookies in all the square boxes, so you had better take them out - don't think they will keep til Christmas. I think you will have 3 tin boxes, one cardboard and an oblong package and a book package for Xmas - That much at least - also food boxes from home and the Robbins and of course the watch. Do you suppose #18 just got lost in the shuffle? Last night I just couldn't get to sleep, even after 3 glasses of sherry - For some reason I was worried about you and consequently very restless - that's about the first time since you left. When I wake [pg 3] up this morning - one eye - my right was swollen shut from some sort of an insect bite, and I was a pretty sight. I was afraid Wendy would be frightened but she didn't seem to notice. I seem to be catching a cold - have been sneezing all morning and have a runny nose - Am going to read through your letters, and list all books - will get them as we can afford them, and what we can't afford I'll get from the library. It's time for little sweetie's lunch now - then Mummy has a letter or two to write, and we'll be going downtown again. Saw Marge this morning, and she said we’d drive to the Ship's Store soon. All my love darling, a huge enormous hug and very special kiss- Bobby |
