Title | Letter from Bobby Johnston to Warren [Letter 71] |
Subject | Correspondence; World War, 1939-1945.; World War, 1939-1945--Women. |
Description | 22- Monday 10/9 12:45 P.M. Darling:- Surprize! But I do want to know how you like my new writing paper. I ordered two big boxes of it for general purposes, but will of course keep writing to you on airmail paper. The Carmel Press is an interesting place, and I expect to have more work done as the occasions arise. Two letters from you this morning IX and XI. I'm still missing VIII. It was so good to get them, and I was much relieved to hear that my mail is getting through to you. I purchased a copy of ‘The Tempering of Russia’ and will start reading and marking it today. ‘Retreat with Stilwell’ I have already read and enjoyed. Did you know that he and his family live [?] in Carmel? Mrs. Price rents a house to his daughter Mrs. Cox, and she has promised to take me down there to meet her and her new baby son, born in August. Honey, I feel stronger and better adjusted every day, and it does give me a feeling of satisfaction, tho of course I never cease to miss you. I am selfish, but as yet I do not want to share our home with anyone; tho of course I shall welcome any and all visitors. Marguerita, is at present I believe out on some sort of a field trip, but I have written her urging a visit, and no doubt will have a letter in return as soon as she has some time. It wouldn't surprize me if Betty and Carl come [pg 2] out here in the spring - and then we might possibly take a house together - [?] forget to write me about Chet. I was interested in hearing about your living quarters and food - was just about to write and ask you about living conditions. I'm sorry you don't have more privacy, but perhaps if you are going to be there any length of time you will be able to make other arrangements. I was able to send the proof to you airmail, and am hoping you will have it by the end of the week. Wendy try harder and harder to sit up, and balances better each day. She doesn't miss a trick when she is awake, and her head bobs continually from side to side trying to see everything! She is not very enthusiastic about her 11 and 3 feedings, and I'm going to phone Dr. [Lusigian?] tomorrow during his telephone hour 8-9 and ask about putting her on three meals a day. We have discarded the [pot?] and I hold her over the john, which works just as well, as is easier. She is wearing [cunning?] knit diapers that look like pants now, and I hope to have her in training panties by Christmas - I would now, but there aren't any small enough. Stopped at Bev's this morning to leave the cookies, but she was in Monterey seeing about gas. Fed Wendy at Bev N. They are coming to dinner tomorrow night. Expect to have Swedish meatballs, [?] potatoes and gulled tomatoes - tossed salad and I guess Brown Betty - will feel funny not to have you here. Had a letter from Grandfather this morning - everyone sends us love - Your loving- Bobby |
