Subject | Correspondence; World War, 1939-1945.; World War, 1939-1945--Women. |
Description | Monday Night [June 5] My darling Wendy's daddy: Saying good-bye dearest even for a few days is just like having part of me go away - Wendy was in a short while ago - looking very sleepy - she took my finger in her tiny fist and tucked it under her chin - which indeed is a replica of yours - She is so tiny and sweet- all that your daughter should be- I feel tired and a bit weepy tonight - a natural reaction I suspect - keep thinking of you this afternoon, and [pg 2] loving you with all my heart- I read the Log and I guess that's what started me going - your additions are so like you, that it is almost as good as having you here beside me- Am too tired to read all the things that you left me tonight - but will do so tomorrow and mail them on to you - So much I wish I could put on paper but can't- My love goes with you always and Wendy I know sense love, a tiny package to her dearest daddy Bobby Tuesday Morning Hi sweety: Feel so much better this morning: Wendy came in unexpectedly at 10:00 last night and was priceless - she lay on her right side with fist curled under her cheek, and one arm stretched against me - just exactly as you do - it is just too good to be true - [pg 3] The Wave that got me up this morning at 5:20 told me of the invasion, and my first thoughts were of you, and how happy I was that you would be in the midst of all the excitement at the Navy Dept. What a wonderful morning to pass out cigars!!! Wendy arrived wide awake at six - Her feed supply is really in, and she went at it for 25 minutes straight without stopping except once or twice for a sign of contentment and a yawn when she was all through leaving me sore, but with a great feeling of accomplishment- Ate a huge breakfast, and the paper arrived (thank you darling - it's good to be up on current news) The candy is going at a steady rate what with Dr. [W?] (who popped in just after delivery), the Waves, nurses, chore woman, lab technician, etc. [pg 4] One of the fellows from the lab came in this morning to take a blood count- poor guy, he’d walked in on two [?] before getting to me - He said the yard was buzzing with excitement - radios blaring all over the place- At 10:00 Wendy was in again - looking more like a doll baby than ever - She had another feast, followed by about five minutes of stretching and yawning - We've had lots of compliments on her ‘sweety’ from nurses and Waves - For the first time, I noticed her long long eye-lashes and her wrist “bracelet- she is all pink and white now - eyes just beginning to change color- At 11:00 I had a ‘you know what’ which wasn't at all bad, and now I'm going to catch up on some odds and ends before lunch - One of the Waves has promised to mail this for me - We love you darling and can hardly wait for Sunday- Bobby |
