The Conference was later reconvened at the Inn of the Four Falls, where counselors, faculty members and student guides alike were treated to a luncheon. In winding up the day's activities Dr. Edmund W. Gordon, Chairman of the Guidance Department at Columbia University, addressed the group and also talked on the attempt that should be made to reach the underpriviledged youngsters in today's modern society. His message was brief, yet interesting and very direct. As a quiet change of pace during the luncheon the Acapello Choir was on hand to render a few beautiful selections. Named Admissions Assistant The Board of Trustees has approved the employment of Miss Carole Sofie as the Assistant to the Director of Admissions and Placement. She will assist in the evaluation of applications and in interviewing students who need additional professional consultation. She received her B. A. Founders Day is the College's recognition of the formal date of the founding of the College, December 8, 1964, the day on which the County Commissioners appointed a Board of Trustees for the Colleges. The main speaker for the morning program will be Dr. Frederic K. Miller, Deputy Superintendent and Commissioner of Higher Education, Department Program The Guidance Counselor's Conference held here at Montgomery County Community College last month was termed by all as a huge success and it is hoped that many more will be held in the future, on an annual basis. The panel, comprised of six members of the faculty and Dean Worthington, who acted as moderator, gave the audience, comprised of some 65 counselors, faculty members and students, to a chance to express their thoughts. Two of the more interesting comments made were those by JoAnne Pierce, a student here at Montgomery, and Mrs. Dorothy M. Gair, Coordinator of one of the college's Work Study programs from the staff Opportunity Board of Montgomery County. Mrs. Gair's comments were essentially directed toward the importance of finding the poor and disadvantaged child and sincerely helping him or her seek his educational goals. Miss Pierce referred to Montgomery as a "second chance", which is what many other students have also expressed. Vivian Butler, a work-study student, also talked of her work with the very poor and the rewarding aspects of the contact with such people. The students mixed well with the counselors and talked about the problems of the underpriviledged child and of financial aid offered here at Montgomery. The counselors then took a brief tour of the campus, Pep Rally Friday Night Attention: Basketball season and wrestling season starts on December 7th. On Decomber 6th the cheerleaders are holding a PEP RALLY to honor the teams and their coaches. The PEP RALLY will start at 7:30 P.M. in the College Hall Gym..
